In addition to excellent surveillance, monitoring and health programs, the DR just launched a sweeping National Program of Education and Prevention of Cholera that will reach over one million families and involve 100,000 volunteers. The national mobilization also has the support of the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO), the Dominican Medical Association and the Dominican Society of Infectious Diseases. “This educational campaign has awakened an unprecedented interest in theDominican Republic, to such a degree that from the most humble citizens to the President of the Republic, they will all be taking part in all the activities prepared for this purpose,” said Rojas Gomez. More than seven thousand public and private schools in the country will join in the program that seeks to raise public awareness on how to prevent contracting cholera.

Despite identifying and successfully treating a small number of cases, the country of 10.5 million residents and over four million annual visitors remains a safe and secure destination. Daily life, business and tourism activities are robust and thriving.

The World Health Organization (WHO) does not recommend restrictions to international travel or trade due to the cholera outbreak in Haiti. At this time, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has not issued any travel warnings for the DR.

The DR features well-managed, globally recognized world-class resorts and hotels with high standards of health, quality and safety. Headquartered in the UK, Cristal Food Safety Ltd.’s CheckSafetyFirst.com website provides travel safety and health tips to consumers, hotels and resorts around the world.

Jason Burnett, technical director, Check Safety First, Ltd. said, “We work with the majority of tourist hotels within the Dominican Republic to ensure the highest standards of food hygiene and safety are maintained. We have been working with hundreds of hotels there to ensure they have all preventions in place and are fully prepared. So far, over 1,000 people within the DR hotel industry have been trained in cholera prevention.”

Sustainable Cocoa Farming from Cocoa Family

Cocoa Family works with farmers to form a sustainable cocoa cultivation system that allows farmers to increase and maintain farm productivity at levels which are economically viable, ecologically acceptable and in tune with the cultural practices of the local farmers. Making real progress against hunger and poverty starts with small farmers by improving their livelihood, knowledge and productivity, and the quality of the cocoa production. All these can help small farmers boost their yields and incomes so they can improve their lives and also eliminate poverty of child labor.

Our program intends to help large numbers of smallholder cocoa farmers to move out of poverty and transform their operations into viable businesses of sustainable cocoa production.

Market demand and farm gate prices for cocoa are higher than they’ve been for decades. While there are promising signs of a strengthening supply base, it is estimated that an additional 100-120k tons of cocoa will be needed each year to meet 2020 global demand. Especially in demand are “total quality” cocoa beans – those with not only excellent physical quality characteristics but also with socio-economic and environmental benefits. Demand for sustainable cocoa produced against credible standards is expected to reach as much as 50% of total world demand by 2020. With these market pressures looming, partners across the entire supply chain are collaborating intensively to secure long-term supply of sustainable cocoa.

Innovations in supply chain management, plant science, financing mechanisms, public-private partnerships, and ways to link farmers to markets are pushing the boundaries of what is possible within the sector. Novel approaches to traceability, breeding, risk-sharing for input financing, and the use of mobile telephony for extension services – just to name a few – create new opportunities for impact.

The innovation engine in the sector is only beginning to reach its potential influence, but is already a powerful force for change. In sum, we believe that these current trends in the cocoa sector, if well responded to, could become the drivers for a thriving, sustainable cocoa farming economy.

Most farmers have vast, untapped potential in their cocoa farms. Due to sheer poverty, many are locked into production levels as low as 300kg/ha. The economic sustainability of cocoa farmers will likely require production of 1000kg/ha or more. Ultimately, the combination of greater productivity, higher quality, diversification, and stronger market connectivity can unlock hidden income and turn struggling farms into profitable ventures. Such an achievement will draw greater investment from existing farmers and attract critically needed new, younger farmers into the profession. There is currently unprecedented commitment from governments, major companies, and donors to co-fund activities that help farmers to increasingly professionalize and generate considerably more income from their farms. The need, the will, the mechanisms, and the initial funding all exist to combat widespread poverty by supporting hundreds of thousands of smallholders to be successful cocoa farming entrepreneurs. We believe that now is the time to channel that funding in a focused way and take large-scale action to strengthen the sector.

Party rentals company Party Jumpers Planet located in Pasadena, Los Angeles County, is offering new boxing ring models. The company’s primary business is focused on inflatable products rentals for backyard parties, company events, schools and church parties. Party Jumpers Planet also offers many other party related items for rent, such as tables, chairs and concession machines.

The company’s decision to add more interactive products to its rental inventory was due to a high demand not from children, but from adults themselves, that are looking to get entertained. Many colleges are renting boxing rings for after hour entertainment or just to get into matches.

The moon walk is constructed of air filled chambers that are a type of house children are able to jump, bounce and have fun in while outside. These moonwalk rentals can be found in different types of structures like houses, castles and other fun things for children to ride, play, slide and jump in. Because these are inflatable not only is like having a carnival ride in the yard, but it is safe without sharp corners, nails, screws or other things that children can be hurt on. Instead these are inflatable air chambers made of vinyl and nylon and this also means that when the event is over and the moon walk rental is no longer needed the yard can easily be returned to its usual appearance.

Inflatable obstacle courses add another dimension to the party, they become the quarterback of the party, because that’s the final destination for children and the place where they will spend most or all of their time. There are other activities at usual carnivals that can occupy kids, but nothing can win them over inflatable products.

The company offers different length obstacle courses, starting from 25 feet long and ending up at 72 feet long courses. “An inflatable obstacle course is a great feature for events that are team oriented and focus on building a competitive team spirit. Obstacle courses also facilitate improving interpersonal relationships among a church community, corporate office or even amongst family and friends in the neighborhood. At Party Jumpers Planet, we offer an obstacle course bouncer for many themes. The durability of our obstacle courses ensures the safety first factor. A backyard obstacle course will attract attention like no other, so be sure to apply any of our obstacle course products to promote your events,” states Vaughn Martin.

Shane Foley USC Former Quarterback Reports on The Cross-town Rivarly USC-UCLA 2011

Shane Foley USC Former Quarterback Reports on The Cross-town Rivarly USC-UCLA 2011. It was a weekend of great divide in PAC-10 play last week. #6 Stanford went to Berkeley and demolished Cal 48-14 in their annual Big Game. It was the most lopsided margin of victory for Stanford in 80 years and only their 2nd win in the last nine games against the Bears. After scoring first, UCLA gave up 24 unanswered points to Washington last Thursday night in their 24-7 loss in Seattle. USC traveled up to Corvallis and was hammered in their 3rd straight loss to Oregon State on the road 36-7. It was the largest margin of victory for the Beavers over the Trojans since their first meeting in 1914.

The offensive line needs to take a long hard look in the mirror after this game. Highly touted center Kris O’ Dowd and guards Michael Reardon and Khaled Holmes were thrown around like rag dolls by Beaver senior defensive tackle Stephen Paea. Paea and his teammates had a perpetual push into the Trojan backfield all game with the Trojan O-line looking like bowling pins. The entire Oregon State defensive front outplayed and out-muscled the Trojan offensive line at the point of attack all game which was evident with the four sacks surrendered and several other hurries on both Barkley and Mustain. Oregon State not only pounded the USC O-line physically but they also played with more desire and effort. The USC running game produced 120 yards on 35 carries for a paltry 3.6 yards per carry. More importantly, the Trojans could not pick up yards when they were most needed and almost half of those yards came from a hard running CJ Gable (57 yards on 10 carries) late in the 2nd half when time was running out. The offensive line was reduced to holding four times and that still could not slow down the OSU front. It was a very disappointing game starting in the trenches where the game is won and lost.

With #1 Oregon and #2 Auburn having byes, there were no changes at the top of the rankings this week. #4 Boise State annihilated Fresno State 51-0 in making their case for their shot in the BCS title game if either Oregon or Auburn slips. #5 LSU held on to beat Mississippi 48-36. #9 Ohio State squeezed by the Hawkeyes in Iowa City 20-17. #7 Wisconsin badgered Michigan in Ann Arbor to win 48-27. #19 Texas A&M prevailed in a defensive struggle over #8 Nebraska 9-6. It is a huge Thanksgiving weekend of football leading off on Friday with the Iron Bowl and #2 Auburn heading into Tuscaloosa for their annual showdown with Alabama. #1 Oregon hosts Arizona and Boise State travels to Nevada for the late game.

The Trojans entered last Saturday’s contest with Oregon State ranked 20th in the AP Poll and hopes of finishing strong with 10 wins despite a very challenging season. USC had lost two straight against the Beavers in Corvallis and had not won in the state of Oregon since 2005. The Beavers looked vulnerable after losing their best receiver James Rodgers for the season and getting shocked by Washington State the previous Saturday at home. However, the Beavers came out and outplayed the Trojans in every phase of the game. The Beavers hit the Trojans in the mouth early and USC never hit back. Oregon State set the tone in the trenches from the outset and what a difference a week makes. The Trojans hunkered down in the desert last week against Arizona and ran over the PAC-10’s top ranked rushing defense. Against the inspired Beavers, USC was on the receiving end of a beat down starting up front on both sides of the ball. With their vulnerable defense, USC has relied on a productive offense to win close games all season with the exception of Cal. The Trojans came into Saturday’s game at OSU ranked No.16 nationally in total offense averaging 461.9 yards per game but managed a dismal 255 total yards against the Beavers. They had 10 drives with five or less plays and were anemic on 3rd down converting 4-16 and 2-6 on 4th down. This game marked the first time since 2001 in Pete Carroll’s first season loss to Utah in the Vegas Bowl that USC finished with single digits. It is perplexing that the Trojans continue to come out flat and get down early on the road in Oregon. There is no question that the Beavers and every other team still hves a bull’s-eye on the Trojans backs, largely based on the history of USC’s success. At what point do the Trojans shift gears to hunting vs. being the hunted?

A special mention needs to be given to 5th year senior CJ Gable. He is one of the few players that played with the heart, determination, and effort that the Trojans needed to compete and win against Oregon State last Saturday. He returned a 56-yard kickoff in the 2nd half breaking tackles and grinding out yards that set up USC’s only touchdown. He also ran hard on every carry and finished as the leading rusher with 57 yards on 10 carries. CJ Gable started 10 games as a true freshman only to play behind Joe McKnight, Stafon Johnson, and more recently Marc Tyler, Allen Bradford, and Dillon Baxter. However, he provided the example of the desire that personifies Trojan football.

Jumpers rentals company, Party Jumpers Planet, offers inflatable products and games for rent. The product line consists of bounce houses or jumpers, water and dry slides, jumper/slide combinations, tables, chairs and concession machines.

The company provides a safe form of entertainment for children and makes it easy and affordable for parents and party planers with their brightly colored and entertaining designs of inflatable jumper units to entertain families.

The company offers parents and party planners a variety of different styles of these lead-free vinyl inflatable units and also gives them the choice of ordering over the Internet or phone. “We pride ourselves keeping our inflatable products always new by replacing them on a regular basis, they are super clean and checked for safety before each rental,” states Vaughn Martin.

Bounce house rentals are the perfect entertainment for any get together where children will attend. These are houses filled with air and designed for children to slide, jump and bounce without danger of being injured. It can also keep children occupied for hours having fun without the need for parents to worry they will be injured on objects that might be sharp.

The school or church social event that has children attending will benefit from having one of the bounce house rentals, because as long as children have a good time parents will attend and stay longer. What this can mean is a successful event for the school or church.

Another place bounce house rentals will be a success is when they are used at family reunions, birthday parties and other family events. This is because all families have young children that become bored easily when at someone else’s home where they don’t have their toys, bikes and outdoor play sets. Children do not enjoy gatherings in the same manner as adults, they have energy and standing around visiting with other guests is not their idea of fun. This can be changed when it is a gathering where bounce house rentals are, which means they can play, jump slide and have hours of fun.

Parents and party planners will find the popular air inflated wet and dry slides, castles and other outdoor entertainment for children. This company is focused on service and making parties, school or church events special for young people. These inflatable units are clean and safe for children. They have no sharp corners or wood that can splinter or nuts and bolts children can be injured on.

As we rumble into the middle of the college football season, a shakeout of contenders and pretenders are starting to emerge. #1 LSU hammered Tennessee 38-7 in Knoxville and #2 ranked Alabama annihilated Ole Miss 52-7 to keep their November 5th showdown in Tuscaloosa on course. The winner of that game will likely garner a spot in the BCS Championship game come January. #3 Oklahoma crushed Kansas to stay on target for the other side of the BCS Championship matchup. #4 Wisconsin moved to 6-0 by trouncing Indiana 59-7 and they have positioned themselves at the head of the class in the BIG-10. Oklahoma State moved to #4 in the new BCS rankings by beating the Longhorns 38-26 at Texas. #5 Boise State also rolled to 6-0 by crushing Colorado State 63-13 and remained an outside contender for a shot to get to the big dance. Kansas State is flying under the radar but is quietly moving up the ladder at 6-0 with their road victory over Texas Tech 41-34. Surprising 7-0 Clemson moved up to #7 in the current BCS rankings by outlasting Maryland 56-45 in College Park. In other action, #23 Michigan State beat #11 and former “big brother” Michigan for the 4th consecutive season. The Buckeyes handed #16 Illinois its first loss 17-7 at Champagne and #21 Texas A&M rolled over #20 Baylor 55-28 and their Heisman hopeful Robert Griffin III at College Station. This week #1 LSU hosts #20 Auburn without “honey badger” star defensive back Tyrann Mathieu, defensive back Tharold Simon, and running back Spencer Ware who have been suspended for “internal matters” according to Head Coach Les Miles. #4 Wisconsin travels to BCS #16 Michigan State for a big matchup and BCS #12 Virginia Tech hosts Boston College.

PAC-12

The strength of the newly formed PAC-12 clearly resides in the North right now with #7 Stanford and Andrew Luck leading the way. The Cardinal overcame a slow start to pound the improved Washington State Cougars 44-14 in Pullman. The 5-1 Oregon Ducks beat the South frontrunner Arizona State Sun Devils 41-27 at Autzen. The showdown in the North is coming to Palo Alto November 12th when Oregon and Stanford collide. The 5-1 Washington Huskies continue to roll with their rout of 1-6 Colorado 52-24 behind their under the radar quarterback Keith Price. 1-5 Oregon State continued its downward slide with a non-conference loss to BYU 38-28 at home. 3-3 Utah snapped their two game losing streak by beating Pittsburgh 26-14 at Heinz Field. USC traveled up to AT&T Park to play Cal last Thursday night on a nationally televised ESPN game in which the defense came away with five turnovers in a sloppy 30-9 victory. The conference overall has not fared well in non-conference action which is dimming the possibilities of a PAC-12 team making it to the BCS Championship based on strength of schedule. There are three teams in the South Division looking for their first conference win; Arizona which just fired Head Coach Mike Stoops and newcomers Utah and Colorado. In the North, Cal has yet to win a conference game, Oregon State is struggling, and Washington State is climbing but still is 1-2 in conference. UCLA and Coach Neuheisel are at a cross road and must pick it up down the stretch for him to be back next season. The Trojans at 5-1 now move into the heart of their schedule and will be put to the test over the next two weeks. Arizona hosts the Bruins Thursday night on ESPN, Utah travels to California, Oregon plays at Colorado, the Beavers travel to Washington State, and the Huskies have a huge matchup against Stanford at the Farm. USC and Notre Dame resume the greatest intersectional rivalry in the country this Saturday in South Bend for their 83rd meeting.

The Cal Aftermath

The Trojans traveled up to Cal’s temporary stadium at AT&T Park while Memorial Stadium gets a major overhaul this season. The setting was beautiful with a warm Indian Summer night on the water, 73 degrees at kickoff. Unfortunately, the game was not so pretty. USC was coming off a bye weekend after being picked apart the previous two weeks, giving up consecutive 40-point games and 946 total yards. The best takeaway for the Trojans in this game was an opportunistic defense that made plays throughout the night. Junior safety Jawanza Starling made a great play on the first drive to set the tone recovering on a short pass play and stripping the ball which was recovered by linebacker Hayes Pullard. Trojan quarterback Matt Barkley hit true freshman wide receiver Marqise Lee on the 1st play from scrimmage for a 32-yard gain inside the Cal 10-yard line. George Farmer’s inaugural carry started with a four yard loss and the drive stalled and the Trojans swinging gate direct snap to Rhett Ellison ended in a fumble and lost opportunity. Taking points and converting opportunities are going to be crucial for the Trojans the rest of the season. Still in the 1st quarter, Nick Perry had a great pass rush and caused fumble on Cal quarterback Zach Maynard that was recovered by a hustling Devon Kennard. The Trojans scored with a 39-yard field goal by freshman kicker Andre Heidari to go up 3-0. USC did a great job of playing field position football capitalizing on Cal’s mistakes and mental errors for the majority of the first half. The Trojan offense had a tough time running the ball inside early and Barkley had a tough time getting into a consistent rhythm. He recognized single coverage against Lee in the 2nd quarter and hit him with a beautiful go route off of a 3-step drop for a 39-yard touchdown to go up 10-0. After Chris Galippo made his first interception of the season with a pass right between his numbers, the Trojans offense again stalled and they settled for three more to go up 13-0. Cal again made a bad decision goi! ng for a fake punt deep in their own territory that was thwarted. The Trojans got a spark from Curtis McNeal after Marc Tyler dislocated his shoulder at the beginning of the 2nd half. McNeal picked up 16 yards on a nifty run and Barkley hit senior Brandon Carswell on a quick pass and he shook the defender on his way to a 7-yard touchdown. Standout linebacker Dion Bailey made his first of two interceptions of the night snuffing out a Cal drive in the end zone to end the half. The Trojan pass defense looked vulnerable in the 2nd half on two consecutive scores to cut the Trojans lead to 23-9, but 6-7 left tackle Matt Kalil blocked the extra point. In the 4th quarter Bailey made his 2nd pick deep in Cal territory and McNeal did the rest with a TD run that finished off the Bears 30-9. USC has now beaten Cal eight straight games since the 34-31 triple overtime loss in 2003.

Quarterback

Matt Barkley came into the Cal game after a USC record setting performance of 468 passing yards against the Wildcats at the Coliseum. Against the Bears, Barkley did a good job of protecting the football but never looked like he found a rhythm. He got off to a great start with a beautiful touch pass to Marqise Lee to move the Trojans to the goal line and again utilized great touch to hit Lee in stride for the first touchdown. He finished 19-35 for 195 with two touchdowns for a 54.2% completion percentage, far below the 68.2% he is completing for the season. For the season, the junior quarterback has 16 touchdowns with 4 interceptions for 1,782 yards passing. The Trojans completed 6-15 on 3rd down and they were 4-5 scoring in the red zone with two touchdowns and two field goals. Barkley completed passes to nine different receivers in the game and he did a great job finding Marqise Lee in single coverage with Cal’s defense focused on taking away Robert Woods. However, Barkley did not look like the ball was coming out of his hand cleanly on some of his passes and there were several occasions that he threw off of his back foot which can be the difference of inches in completing deep balls. There were several missed opportunities with close calls on long routes to open receivers that will be need to be converted going forward. Another area of improvement that Barkley needs to make is giving his receivers a chance and not throwing the ball out of bounce. This does not mean throwing the ball away if there is pressure and nothing is open, it means giving your athletic receivers a chance in one on one situations on go routes. USC’s improved play on defense and Cal’s ineptitude took the pressure off of the Trojan offense but this will not be the case going forward. The Trojans and Barkley must be sharp against much better competition that is now upon them. The offense must take advantage of turnovers and they need to find ways to score touchdowns in the red zone, especially against the offenses they will playing th! e rest o f the season. It will also be imperative for Barkley to have total command of the offense on the road this week. This not only means being sharp throwing the football, it also means managing the clock, knowing your time out situation, understanding your hot reads to pick up the blitz and using the cadence to slow down the defense. It is the little things that separate the good from the great and the great ones come to play in the biggest games.

Running Game

There has not been a lot of commitment to the running game this season. Certainly having weapons Robert Woods and the emergence of Marqise Lee at your disposal with Barkley distributing makes passing the ball an attractive option. However, they will need to run the ball against better, more physical defenses. It was tough sledding early against Cal with senior Marc Tyler getting the bulk of the action. He finished with 11 carries for 35 yards with an average of 2.7 yards per carry. He is a physical back and has the size and strength to hammer on short yardage and also break tackles. With his injured shoulder taking him out of the game on the 1st play of the 2nd half, Curtis McNeal stepped in and energized the team. There is nothing that fires up offensive lineman more than seeing a running back hitting the hole , bouncing off tacklers, or carrying two or three defenders for an extra four or five yards. McNeal has continued to deliver in a backup capacity with his low center of gravity, quick feet, and desire to finish runs. He finished with 90 yards on 17 carries for a 5.1 average and one touchdown. I believe he has earned the opportunity to get some more carries. George Farmer made his debut at tailback after converting over from wide receiver and he had decent first game. He has not played the position since early in high school and it showed. However, he did show good strength going head to head and bouncing off of a defender and was close to breaking a long gain on another play. He did fumble late in the game but he is another weapon on the offense with breakaway speed and he can create matchup nightmares out of the backfield or moving around into different formations. Protecting the football will be crucial on the road this week. The fullback position has been split with Ross Cumming getting more reps and senior Rhett Ellison moving between full back and tight end.

O-Line

The offensive line did not give up a sack against Cal and they have only surrendered four on the season. They currently are ranked 9th in country in sacks allowed giving up .67 per game. The Trojans finished with 138 yards rushing for a 3.2 yard average. McNeal stepped up and gave the offense a spark with 90 yards. On the season, the running game is averaging 133.5 yard per game which is currently 54th in the country. Matt Kalil at left tackle and left guards Martin Coleman or Marcus Martin have become the preferred side to run behind. The Trojans are 19th in the country in passing with 297.3 yards per game. These statistics are relevant because the productivity all starts with the big men up front. Cal’s front seven and their 3-4 defense presented a formidable defense to run against early. The physical push looked even early in the game and center Khaled Holmes had a tough time on several occasions with a slanted nose guard that shot the gap before he could get his head across. This is crucial for the center and guards to win this battle because it is the point of attack for the defense. John Martinez is the “little guy” up front at 6-2, 290 lbs but he is active and is constantly looking to pick up blocks downfield. Right tackle Kevin Graf has improved since the ASU game and is doing a better job moving his feet. He did have a false start on 3-13 in the 4th quarter and true freshman Martin had a false start on 3-6 in the 3rd quarter. There must be supreme focus and discipline this week up front and they must play as a cohesive, ornery unit.

Wide Receivers and Tight Ends

Robert Woods was largely held in check against Cal, finishing with five catches for 36 yards. He was double teamed often and Barkley overthrew him on several occasions. Granted, there was a bye week prior to this game that may have contributed to some minor timing issues but the Trojans need to continue to find ways to get the football in his hands. If defenses scheme to take him away, then the running game must get on track and the other playmakers need to be involved. Barkley did a nice job finding Marqise Lee against Cal who chose to cover him one on one a lot of the night. He finished 4 catches for 81 yards and one touchdown. Senior Brandon Carswell did a nice job shaking a defender and getting into the end zone and Brice Butler had one catch for 15 yards but also got caught holding. Tight end Randall Telfer had two catches on bootlegs but the tight end position was not a focus in this game. Ultimately, a great offense has the ability to take what a defense gives you and they typically have the ability to stay one step ahead of a defense. Execution is key but being able to recognize the weakness in a defense and exploiting it is the trait of a great play caller. The tight ends with Rhett Ellison, Xavier Grimble, and Telfer are all capable and should be utilized.

Defensive Line

The defensive line has been a steady unit neutralizing the running game. The defense is currently ranked 19th in the country in rushing yardage giving up 99.5 yards per game. Against Cal, the Trojans stuffed the Bears running game giving up only 35 yards for an anemic 1.3 yards per rush. The bigger challenge is the passing defense which is ranked 105th in the country, giving up 272 yards per game. Cal’s erratic quarterback had three interceptions but he did get hot in the 2nd half and threw for 294 yards in the game. USC did a better job of applying pressure and they finished with three sacks for thirty yards of losses and defensive end Nick Perry caused a fumble on Cal QB Maynard. There is no question that the Cal quarterback made some ill advised throws but a great pass rush is the best way to neutralize great quarterbacks as well. Nick Perry has four sacks on the season and Devon Kennard on the other side is starting make is his presence felt. Coach Orgeron is utilizing him in a down position as well as up in a two point stance playing the “elephant” position similar to Clay Mathews Jr. and Brian Cushing. Tackles Christian Tupou and DaJohn Harris are playing solid stuffing the middle and Harris finished with a sack and deflected pass getting his hands up. Wes Horton also had a sack and 1.5 tackles for a loss. The Trojans on several occasions rushed three defenders and dropped eight into a blanket coverage. Even with three, they were able to get a good push which did not allow the Cal quarterback to hold the ball all day. The defensive line will see a bigger, more physical offensive line this week.

Linebackers

The linebacker position was the most improved position on the field in this game. Dion Bailey continues to prove himself at outside linebacker again leading the defense in tackles with eight but also picking off two passes, denying a Cal touchdown before halftime and setting up the Trojans last score. At this juncture, he is the most valuable player on the defense. Hayes Pullard on the other side finished with six tackles and also recovered a fumble on the first drive. Both of these players are redshirt freshman and they are already leaders on this defense. They are not the same type of player as Brian Cushing or Keith Rivers but they both can run and hit and they tackle with good technique. Chris Galippo had his best game of the season even though he finished with only one tackle. He had an interception that hit him in the number and he made a great jump on a slant pass that he almost intercepted for a touchdown. Cal ran a more pro-style offense with trips and different looks but he played in much better position, had better first steps, and was around the football more consistently. He put pressure on the quarterback but he has a tendency to be out of control when gets close to the quarterback with causes him to miss tackles. Shane Horton played sparingly at inside linebacker finishing with a tackle and a broken up pass that he should have intercepted but he still is not making the impact that he did when he played last season. Freshman linebacker Lamar Dawson has still not made it back from his injury but Ross Cumming played at linebacker and finished with four tackles, demonstrating his versatility at two positions.

Defensive Backs

The much maligned pass defense did surrender 294 yards through the air but the defense did have five takeaways, including 3 interceptions albeit all by linebackers. Junior safety Jawanza Starling played his best game this season, finishing with six tackles and one for a loss including a huge strip on a receiver on Cal’s first drive. It is this type of play that has been lacking from the defensive backs this season. Nickell Robey also had six tackles and he is feisty playing against the run. Junior TJ McDonald is a force at safety and he has a dominating presence patrolling the secondary and coming up to make vicious hits. However, his lack of wrapping up has hindered him this year and against bigger, more physical backs, shoulder tackles will not always get it done. He also needs to continue look for the ball to create turnovers. The five turnovers in this game need to be a catalyst to jump start their anemic turnover margin which is -.33 which has them tied for 84th in the country. Cornerback Anthony Brown had two tackles but had a very unfortunate injury breaking his ankle in this game. Junior JC transfer Isiah Wiley came in, finished with four tackles and at 6-1, 185 lbs looks like a more physical corner that has an opportunity to challenge bigger receivers. Senior safety Marshall Jones saw some action finishing with three tackles. The Trojans red zone defense has been severely lacking so far this season giving up 18-20 scores at a 90% rate including 15-20 touchdowns 75% of the time. Coach Monte Kiffin did call a more aggressive game with some stunts to bring more pressure and the Trojans will have to bring heat on the road this week and they must win the turnover battle.

Special Teams

One of the best plays George Farmer made was on a kickoff shooting the gap and stuffing the return man at the 15 yard line right after the first field goal. It is this kind of desire and hustle that you need to help your special teams flourish. Coach Baxter has not had sustained success by accident. Freshman kicker Andre Hedairi has performed like a veteran connecting on 10-11 field goals and he is a true asset to the team. He was kicking deep into the end zone against Arizona but was not able to create the touchbacks against the Bears. Punter Kyle Negrete punted five times and averaged 42 yards per punt. He had three punts inside Cal’s 20-yard line and two inside the 10. He also had one punt over 50 yards. Coach Baxter does not want to the punt returners to have a shot to return the punts. Matt Kalil once again made his presence felt blocking an extra point. At 6-7, he has become a weapon and he preserved the win against Utah earlier in the year. The return teams both kickoff and punt are due to break one. Look for Farmer to start fielding some balls now that his redshirt year has been lifted.

Injuries are tough to overcome, especially on an already young team. Marc Tyler is a game time decision and Marqise Lee is hopeful on making it back. They will have to be at full speed in this game to be able to go. It may be a young team but it is their time to make a name and to emerge as the next great Trojans. There is no room for excuses and Notre Dame is a heavy favorite but that is why we play the game! Both teams teams out of the top 25 with the winner likely to move back in and the loser on the outside looking in.

The Time Has Come!

There is no time to look back and think about the last game or last year’s game. Not when you are playing your archrival at their house! Playing Notre Dame is why you come to USC- there is nothing better. As Notre Dame Coach Brian Kelley said, “we have a lot of teams that call us their rival but this game is truly our rivalry game.” Yes, UCLA is our cross-town rival in Los Angeles but this is the greatest cross-country rivalry that has endured over time and space. Coach Kiffin’s predecessor set the bar pretty high going 16-2 against his rivals over nine seasons, including eight straight against the Irish after an 0-1 start. This game is how you are measured as coach at USC and Notre Dame, just ask Charlie Weiss, Ted Tollner, Tyrone Willingham, or Larry Smith. To be the best, you have to beat the best. Notre Dame has shaken off an 0-2 start plagued with turnovers and embarrassing losses to win four straight including the demolition of Michigan State 31-13 and hanging 59 points on Air Force. The Trojans are 5-1 but have not yet played a complete game yet and certainly have not faced a team with Notre Dame’s size and strength. This game between Notre Dame and USC still represents the preeminent intersectional rivalry in the country, now in its 83rd year. USC and Notre Dame have unparalleled traditions built on mutual admiration and respect. It is a different rivalry than any other out there. They have each won 11 national championships, seven Heisman trophies, and each have had five Number 1 overall picks in the NFL. As a Trojan, it is not about overestimating who we are or living on past laurels but rather having a proud tradition that you strive to live up to in creating your own identity and greatness. Being a Trojan means respecting your opponent, playing with class, and always striving to get better. It is time to shake off the past and focus on the here and now, to prepare for battle, to travel to Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend for the first night game in over twenty years, and to raise the sword ! and to a lways Fight On!

Beat the Irish!

P.S. There will be more to follow on USC-ND match up and rivalry!

FIGHT ON!

Human rights sector attracts major donors and foundation with available grants to qualified nonprofit organizations. Soros’ latest pledge of $30 million to transform most vulnerable black and latino boys gives many programs a chance to succeed. Building on its long commitment to reverse systemic injustices in the United States, the Open Society Foundations today announced that it is joining a new initiative to address broad disparities facing black and Latino boys and men in New York City.

“The problems facing young men of color in this city do not exist in a vacuum,” said Sherrilyn Ifill, board chair of U.S. Programs at the Open Society Foundations. “We cannot exclude and subjugate broad segments of our citizenry without damaging democracy and open society values for all, which is why the Open Society Foundations is joining in this effort.”

Human rights are “basic rights and freedoms that all people are entitled to regardless of nationality, sex, age, national or ethnic origin, race, religion, language, or other status.”Human rights are conceived as universal andegalitarian, with all people having equal rights by virtue of being human. These rights may exist as natural rights or as legal rights, in both national and international law. The doctrine of human rights in international practice, within international law, global and regional institutions, in the policies of states and the activities of non-governmental organisations has been a cornerstone of public policy around the world. It has been said that: “if the public discourse of peacetime global society can be said to have a common moral language, it is that of human rights.” Despite this, the strong claims made by the doctrine of human rights continue to provoke considerable skepticism, debates about the content, nature and justifications of human rights continue to this day.

Many of the basic ideas that animated the movement developed in the aftermath of the Second World War and the atrocities of the Holocaust, culminating in the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Paris by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948. The ancient world did not possess the concept of universal human rights. Ancient societies had “elaborate systems of duties… conceptions of justice, political legitimacy, and human flourishing that sought to realize human dignity, flourishing, or well-being entirely independent of human rights”. The modern concept of human rights developed during the early Modern period, alongside the European secularization of Judeo-Christian ethics. The true forerunner of human rights discourse was the concept of natural rights which appeared as part of the medieval Natural law tradition, became prominent during theEnlightenment with such philosophers as John Locke, Francis Hutcheson, and Jean-Jacques Burlamaqui, and featured prominently in the political discourse of the American Revolution and the French Revolution.

Cacao Health Drink Company WellBean Launches in Los Angeles

Cacao has been known for it’s nutritional properties for years and was used throughout history as a folk medicine. According to a new study by Harvard research shows that cocoa consumption is associated with decreased blood pressure, improved blood vessel health, and improvement in cholesterol levels, among other benefits. It has more antioxidants then acai and blueberries and is gaining in popularity as a superfood for athletes and many concerned with their overall health.

Cacao has been proven to enhance mood, relieve stress and depression, reduces the chance of having heart failure, stroke, cancer and diabetes, improves blood flow, lowers high blood pressure, improves digestion and prevents constipation and fights aging and problem skin. The high-flavanol content helps fight aging skin and in the recent times cocoa has become very popular in the skin and beauty industry due its effective benefits. Cocoa contains flavanols that helps vascular tissues relax which improves blood vessel function and also gives a glow to the skin. Cocoa is also effective in treating skin damages, dark spots, acne and other skin problems.

Nutrients and Minerals Found in Cacao are Magnesium, Iron, Chromium, Anandamide “The Bliss Chemical”, Theobromine, Antioxidant Flavonoids, Manganese, Zinc, Copper, Omega 6 Fatty Acids, Phenethylamine (PEA), Tryptophan, Serotonin, Endorphins, Sulfur, Calcium, Potassium, N-acylethanolamines, Oleic Acid, Heart-Healthy Monounsaturated Fat, MAO Inhibitors.

Here is a list of the foods with the highest ORAC values (the number given to foods based on their antioxidant activity):

•Unprocessed Raw Cacao – ORAC 28,000
•Acai Berries – ORAC 18,500
•Dark Chocolate – ORAC 13,120
•Prunes – 5,770
•Goji Berries – 3,472
•Pomegranates – 3,307
•Raisins – 2,830
•Blueberries – 2,400

Chocolate does not equal cacao. Most candy and chocolate bars contain not only low levels of cacao and other unhealthy ingredients such as sugars, milk fat, artificial flavorings and so on, but the quality and processing of the cacao used in these products takes the healthy elements right out of the beans!

WellBean is 100% organic grown from a high quality farmer in the Dominican Republic. To get the most of your Cacao consumption, accept only quality beans.

NonProfit Destination, a professional organization helping non for profit companies, offers services in the areas of grant writing, research, fund raising and marketing. Running a non profit organization requires more than just a passion. There are at least five different regulatory bodies that each nonprofit must report to. The agencies are IRS, Franchise Tax Board, Board of Equalization, Attorney General and Tax Assessors Report.

Non profit organizations are required to report on received grants from a foundation or endowment to each governing agency. Provide a comprehensive compliance analysis and review current status for all reporting agencies, including: IRS, Franchise Tax Board, Board of Equalization, Attorney General, Tax Assessors Report. In most cases a review of past two years tax returns, and any forms will be required as well.

The company offers a Grant Strategic Plan, which includes a mission statement; project outcomes; outcome measurements; statistics and many others to make it grant-worthy and fundable. The “business plan” that delivers a final product for submission to any foundation, endowment or corporate funder. The package will get an organization ready for grant submission and a research to direct it to the proper sources.

“The most common reason for running afoul of the IRS is that many nonprofits are started based on passion- a need to make a difference. As much as that is a great reason, it’s all the more incentive to run your nonprofit like a business. The more money you have- the more you can help. We will make you “Grant-worthy.” By following our direction and allowing us to guide you, you can tap into the many grants that go unclaimed,” states Jack Nelson, a Director of Communications for Non Profit Destination.

“We find in many cases the Board or Executive Directors don’t know what they don’t know. Almost 23% of the collective 160,000 nonprofits are religion-based organizations and many are in jeopardy; parishioners may get an unwelcome surprise and find that their contributions are no longer tax-free. That group is the largest followed by Education, Arts, and Culture making up the next largest groups,” add Mr. Nelson.

The company has many unique services to raise funds for non profit organizations, making them marketable and popular.
